Resumo:
We frequently hear about corporate crimes, companies implicated in various types of scandals, from inappropriate waste disposal to slave labor. In that context, the consumers are asking for more transparency, more explanations, and more investment in corporate social responsibility. However, Castro et al. (2007) believe there is a discrepancy between the attitude and the consumer behaviour with respect to corporate social responsibility. The purpose of this study is to research the factors that explain that difference between words and practice, in particular concerning companies that have been denounced for corporative crimes. To that end 15 people living in the state of Rio de Janeiro were interviewed. The answers focused notably on the lack of information and the attractivity of low costs.
