Hostel is an alternative type of accommodation, which focuses on lower prices and easier interaction with other people.
This work addresses the main characteristics of tourism relation to the specific public and the necessary structures that tourists should expect from places for accommodation, and also: marketing, costumer behavior, tourism and hospitality, Brazilian tourism, the Brazilian population, and backpacking.
The main goal was to analyze the motivations from a tourist who goes to hostels, and identify their satisfactions in regards to their experience on this type of accommodation.
Bibliographic and exploratory researches were conducted in the form of a structure quest with 52 tourists staying at different hostels and neighborhoods of the city Rio de Janeiro, also a deeper semi-structured interview script with 2 hostels representatives form the South Bound of Rio de Janeiro.
The results show that public who looks for hostels are the younger tourists, specially of the ages 20 to 30, not relating to their social class. The one thing missing at hostels is the privacy, and some other could use some better cleaning of their bathrooms.
