This study intended to identify how foreign tourists see the city of Rio de
Janeiro and what are your expectations for the World Cup 2014 and the Olympics
in 2016. We attempted to raise perceptions of the attributes of the city of Rio de
Janeiro as a tourist destination. Data were collected through personal interview
and an online questionnaire, written in English and distributed by email and
through social networks. The results indicate that tourists consider the natural
beauty, good climate and hospitality of the people as being the most positive
points, while the poor quality of infrastructure, public transport and violence, less
positive points. This analysis can be a good input for stakeholders.
