Resumo:
This work was about the meaning of work for university teachers with 60 years or older (seniors). This study was therefore aimed to identify the direction that the work brings to life of individuals who entered the elderly and continue to engage in remunerated work activity even after retirement. Therefore, we conducted individual interviews following a semi-structured, present only the interviewee and the interviewer. The interviews were recorded for later analysis. Based on responses to structured analysis on six topics, namely: work as a source of pleasure and fulfillment; work and family, work and sense of usefulness; work and survival?; centrality of work ; and social contribution of the work. Conclusively, it was found that the meaning of work for individuals of this research, is not related to income but the intrinsic factors such as pleasure, achievement, social contribution, learning.
