Resumo:
In the last few years has been a large increase in the number of scholarships granted by the Federal Government through the implementation of the quota policy in public education and ProUni Program (University Program for All), so the number of students coming from disadvantaged social strata, is increasing in universities that had been considered accessible only to the most economically advantaged classes. Because of this, young people from disadvantaged social classes began to run, apparently on an equal footing with the middle class youth, in search for better jobs in the labor market. However, the design of Bourdieu (2007) on the social reproduction of social inequalities is that the diploma is not enough for individuals to have access to the same opportunities for integration into the labor market. The life trajectories of young alumni from PUC -Rio were analyzed in order to know the factors that led them to search for schooling and whether the education changed their financial and social status. Education is the only determining factors that influence the achievement of a good position in the labor market? Or other factors such as income, race, social background interferes with the career advancement of young people? The research findings show that individuals from disadvantaged social status are being affected by the lack of economic capital that hinders them from investing in their cultural capital to advance their careers
