Resumo:
This work consists in the study of the feasibility of polyolefinic pipes usage in the chemical industry. And an analysis of air industrial piping installed in pipe rack and subject to the weather, which carry process water. The first chapter is aimed at Introduction that presents the work, this is the goal, the justification and the methodology used in the composition of it. The second chapter is the Literature Review, which presents briefly the history of industrial pipes, plus a brief description of the carbon steel, High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP), being given an increased focus on carbon steel and HDPE, because these are objects of comparison made in chapter three. In this chapter we present the main technical standards applicable thereto. The third chapter is devoted to the Case Study of an engineering project using carbon steel and HDPE. Analyzing the thickness of the pipe, the pumping power, the maximum gap between supports and the stress on the supports. The fourth chapter is presented Other parameters to be considered, such as, welding, sustainability and material cost and assembly. The fifth chapter presents the findings from this study. And the sixth chapter is reserved for Suggestions for future work.
