The modern world brings multiple new challenges to engineers and, today, robotics is one
of the most active fields in this aspect. Robots are capable of performing an infinite amount
of tasks and are extremely useful especially when considering safety and assistence to human
operators. Recently this need became obvious at Fukushima, Japan, where a devastating earthquake
caused fatal damages to the nuclear power plant, requiring the use of robots that could
withstand levels of radiation humans simply can t. Every day robotic prosthetic limbs are implanted
on humans. Having these growing needs in mind this paper presents a novel system
for remote operation or rehabilitation. The proposed system is composed of a mechanical hand
actuated by Nitinol strands e controled by a remotely operated feedback system. The mechanical
models are proposed, built and tested and their efficiency evaluated. The model proves
flexible and functional, real-world use observations are made and presented.
