Resumo:
This paper has been inspired on the oil recovery method of low salinity water injection into reservoirs in order to increase the oil recovery factor, based on the hypothesis of multiple ion exchange. Thus, the effects of low salinity water injection on the contact angle between oil droplets and surface, with the consequent reduction of the contact area between them which leads to the oil detachment from the substrate have been investigated Numerous studies have been trying to infer potential mechanisms to justify the increase in the oil recovery factor by low salinity waterflooding (LSW). However, it is not yet known for sure the underlying mechanisms that leads to the success of this method. Field and laboratory results indicate that rock wettability shifts from an oil-wetting to a water-wetting state. In order to investigate the effect of wettability, quantitative experiments have been performed by measuring the contact angle between oil droplets and clay surface in contact with water of different salinities, using different concentrations of laponite, and hence simulating in the laboratory environment, in a simplified manner, the conditions seen in the reservoir. Also, there were qualitative tests, which allowed further observations of the characteristics and variability of this process.
