This project aims at developing a high sensitivity pressure transducer, for biomedical applications. The proposed transduction method uses a mechanic structure that allows the conversion of pressure in magnetic field, and then an electronic circuit to convert it in voltage, by impedance phase readings of GMI (Giant Magnetoimpedance) sensors. Among possible biomedical applications, stand out the register of arterial pulse waves and the measurement of the arterial pulse wave velocity (PWV). The characteristics of the designed electronic circuit are shown and discussed throughout the text. The mechanic structure idealized for the pressure transducer prototype is described. The aspects that led to an increase of about 16 times in the transducer sensitivity are pointed out, when compared to previously developed prototypes. This enhancement is essential for biomedical applications that usually require low pressure measurements, with high resolution.
