It is unanimous that the relationship between Tourism and Airports is wider than just carrying passengers to their destinations. In order to increase revenues, airports are focusing on developing commercial activities and becoming commercial hubs. As in common retail, several studies regarding the passengers’ behavior and shopping motivations have been conducted at the airports. However, airport retail differs from common retail due to the psychological and environmental issues linked with the travel process. In order to understand the Brazilian airport shopping motivators, passengers at the Santos Dumont Airport, Rio de Janeiro, were questioned by means of a standardized questionnaire. The results revealed four distinct dimensions, two shopping motivations related to the airport and two traditional shopping motivations. Based on the previous dimensions, four shopper types were distinguished: Interactive shopper; Egocentric shopper; Traditional shopper and Apathetic / Indifferent shopper.
