Resumo:
With the increase of consumption by the low-income segments, currently represented by almost half of the urban households in Brazil, large and small food enterprises have directed their focus to the low-income classes (D and E). This study aims to investigate the behavior of low-income consumers in choosing the groceries of five markets in the cities of Além Paraíba, Pirapetinga, and Estrela Dalva. Two different studies were made: observation of the routing of purchase and in-depth interviews after the purchase, in addition to the analysis of 60 receipts. In this way, it was possible to identify the attributes that customers consider relevant at the time of the purchase of food and the distribution of spending in product categories, basic and superfluous.
