The objective was to identify the contributing factors modern consumers
use to decide which movie to see in the cinema. This study seeks to better
understand the Brazilian moviegoer, identify the most frequently used criteria to
choose a film and the consumers´ preferences and perceptions. Firstly, a review
of literature that dealt with the decision making process of consumers, the film
market and the marketing of films was conducted. Following this, a survey of 109
consumers was conducted. The results demonstrate that the majority of those
interviewed go to the movies based on either the recommendation of friends, or
the genre of the movie. It also display that most consumers indeed go to the
movies and see this as a form of entertainment and socialization.
