Resumo:
This paper s objective is to present a sonic flow controller and meter system, developed at the PUC-Rio s Vehicular Engineering Laboratory, to explain how it works and to analyze data obtained through experiment. The system can be divided into two parts, the mechanical and the electronic (hardware and software), that interact through pressure and temperature transducers and a data acquisition board. This way the mechanical part can be changed or repositioned in real time, depending on the necessity of increasing or decreasing the flow. The gas flow control is made by the movement of a conic needle, which blocks partially the nozzle s cross section area. The needle s movement is provided by a step motor connected to the computer. The experiment was divided in two phases: in the first, the flow controller was calibrated and then, in the second one, the system was tested individually, actuating directly on a compressed air flow. The flow meter and controller system reacted as expected during the experiment, returning results witch were consonant to the expectations. Therefore the equipment was considered functional and proved to be largely applicable in several industry sectors.
