Resumo:
The Brazilian sugar and ethanol industry is today having a unique experience in its history. Brazil is the leading producer of sugar cane and its related products, and is responsible for nearly 50% of all sugar traded globally. The companies of this industry in Brazil are, therefore, in the center of this market in the world. Its trace, marked by government intervention until the early 90`s, was such that many companies had problems to go through deregulation, and, today they are in a more competitive environment and the achievement of a competitive advantage is vital for its survival. This work proposes to present an overview of this industry in Brazil and to suggest ways to gain competitive advantage.
