Resumo:
This thesis is based on the principle that production, marketing and consumption of flowers and ornamental plants form geographic networks that present themselves in different spatial dimensions: global, national and regional. The quantitative-qualitative approach of this research seeks to understand in which dimension(s) the floriculture in Rio de Janeiro is inserted through the connections that are established between the various spatial elements that make up the nodes of its network. To achieve the central objective of the investigation, in addition to the theoretical framework, field activities were carried out in the main productive spaces for flowers and ornamental plants in municipalities located in four government regions of the state of Rio de Janeiro: Baixadas Litorâneas, Centro-Sul, Metropolitana and Serrana, where interviews with space agents, image recordings, segment diagnoses, among other observations, took place. It is the regions highlighted - notably their rural areas - that contribute most to floriculture in Rio de Janeiro. Based on what they produce and what they consume, an analysis is carried out that indicates their connections and projections and shows that the rural space is not restricted to the supply of products from the primary sector, therefore, it is inferred that it is a producer, but also consumer. Through the relationship between production, commercialization and consumption, the nodal points of floriculture in Rio de Janeiro were unraveled and presented in this work, indicating a multi-scale relationship in the connections between the various spatial elements of the floriculture network studied.
