Resumo: | |||||||||||||
We are witnessing the phenomenon of aging with the growth of the elderly population worldwide. By 2050, there will be a significant number of individuals over 60 years old, with Brazil registering, according to the 2022 Census, 14.7 percent of its population in this age group. This dissertation is situated within the field of Social and Emotional Design, aiming to explore how Design can facilitate knowledge acquisition for older adults, thereby promoting their functional capacity, autonomy, independence, well-being, and personal identity. The research seeks to identify the opportunities and challenges faced by individuals aged 60 and older in the process of lifelong learning, as well as to explore initiatives and projects that encourage their participation. The methodological approach involved the personal experience of a 60+ woman, a literature review on the subject, and semi-structured interviews with older adults engaged in continuous learning. We believe that Design, as an interdisciplinary and multifaceted field, has the potential to integrate initiatives aimed at the aging population, contributing to a longer and better quality of life.
