Financial education is an extremely important topic for society that should be
widely debated and taught from basic education onwards so that children, teenagers
and young people can reach adulthood knowing what it is and how to make at least
one family budget. But that s just the beginning. Ideally, young people should learn
about the importance of saving, researching prices and investing. And for all this
content to be absorbed satisfactorily by students, Financial Mathematics should be
widely taught from the early years of Basic Education.
Currently, the teaching of Financial Mathematics is not very in-depth, and most
of the time it is limited to working with simple interest and an introduction to
compound interest. And these subjects, especially compound interest, are usually used
as a contextualization to deal with concepts such as logarithms and exponentials.
The aim of this work is to explain the importance of teaching financial
mathematics from basic education and to suggest ways of making this teaching more
attractive to students.
