Resumo: | |||||||||||||
This paper offers a theological-musical reflection on the sermon De
Psalmodiae Bono, which discusses the art of singing the psalms within the context
of Christian worship. In this treatise, Nicetas focuses on the practice of chanting
and reciting the Psalms, providing guidance on the importance of psalmody-the
act of chanting the psalms-and emphasizing the proper and edifying manner of
performing it in the assembly of believers. Rather than presenting merely a
technical discussion, the sermon analyzes how liturgical music contributes to the
spiritual edification of the faithful through a careful and reverent performance of
the Psalms. Accordingly, the sermon De Psalmodiae Bono is fundamental to
understanding Nicetas s liturgical approach and the influence of his thought on the
worship practices of the early Church. Its significance becomes evident by showing
how, from ancient times, the Church has endeavored to maintain the proper order
in liturgical celebrations while at the same time promoting the spiritual formation
of the community through prayer and music.
