Resumo:
Communication is an interactive and complex phenomenon that enables the demonstration of aspects of oneself and the other. The objective of this study is tounderstand communication between childless couples at the beginning of their conjugal relationship. To achieve this goal, a qualitative study was conducted, in which four men and four women, aged between 30 and 39 years, who had no children and had been married for a maximum of three years, were interviewed. Content analysis (Bardin, 2016) was used to analyze the data. Four categories emerged from the analysis of the interviews: Communicating Feelings: From Words to Silence; Repetition of Family Communication Patterns; Communication in Project Development; and Agreements in the Pursuit of an Egalitarian Relationship. The results were presented in two articles and indicate difficulties in expressing feelings, particularly anger, as well as the repetition of family patterns. Furthermore, it was shown that women had greater ease in adjusting between individual and shared projects, whereas some men exhibited difficulties in thisaspect. It is concluded that understanding and appropriating family communicationpatterns is essential for developing new ways of expression. Moreover, the reconciliation of individuality and conjugal life through dialogue is a key factor for relationship quality.
