Resumo:
The signifier woman holds a central place in Jacques Lacan s formulations, as he attributes different meanings to the term, ultimately arriving at the formula The Woman does not exist. This indeterminacy and polysemy lead to considerable misunderstandings both within and beyond psychoanalysis. Thus, we take woman as our object of investigation. Through a documentary analysis with a quantitative-qualitative approach, we trace the occurrences of woman throughout nearly thirty years of Lacan s Seminars. Our objective is to identify and delineate the various meanings into which woman unfolds. We argue that formalizing what exists – far from creating what does not – bears significant epistemological and clinical relevance, providing essential reflections and clarifications that help orient us both within psychoanalytic epistemology and in the debate with other fields of knowledge.
