Resumo:
This study investigates the impact of political connections established through electoral windows via corporate campaign donations on the dynam ics of public procurement. The timing and proximity of such donations open avenues for closer relationships between politicians and firms, potentially fos tering conditions for favoritism. Using detailed microdata on public procure ment from the states of Ceará, Paraná, and São Paulo, this research adopts a Regression Discontinuity Design (RD Design) framework to achieve causal identification. The approach simulates a quasi-random assignment in the dona tion decision-making process by leveraging competitive elections. I do not find significant evidence of favoritism toward connected firms in the discontinuities of competitive elections.
