Resumo: | |||||||||||||
This research aims to analyze the understanding of Libras and
Portuguese Translators and Interpreters (TILSP) regarding the practice of
simultaneous interpretation from Libras to Oral Portuguese, considering
the formative, vocal and prosodic aspects of this process. The guiding
questions of the research are: (i) What are the main difficulties that
emerge in the narratives of TILSPs regarding the voice version? (ii) What
resources do TILSPs use to overcome this difficulty? (iii) Are there gaps in
the training of TILSPs? What are they? (iv) What is the relevance of the
voice version for interpreters? (v) Do participants believe that Bilingual
Speech Therapy for the Deaf could contribute to the area? The theoretical
and analytical foundations are from the interactional perspective through
postulates of Prosody (Hewings, 1992; Coulthard, 1992), Multimodality
(Goodwin, 2010; Mondada, 2018), Short Narratives (Bamberg, 2005) and
Studies of Translation and Interpretation in Sign Languages (Rodrigues,
2013). The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of
the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. The six study
participants were linked to the Extension Course called Improvement of
Direct Direction for G-TILS - Vocal Techniques, offered remotely by the
Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. The data were generated in online
meetings with a focus group and recorded in audio, with a research
procedure based on the postulates of conversation analysis, with
transcription conventions. The analysis indicates that the participants
express fear of interpreting in Voice Version due to the few opportunities
for experience in directionality; to the possible judgment of others; and to
the lack of training focused on such practice. To face this difficulty, the
interpreters use oratory strategies learned in the Extension Course; also
collaboration with the support interpreter; visual resources, such as slides;
and strategies specific to the area of translation and interpretation.
Regarding the contribution of the bilingual speech therapist, the
participants considered that this can add to the practice of TILSPs. For the
interpreters, a communication health professional who knows libras could
offer support both in the Voice Version and towards libras, with an
emphasis on the transposition of prosodic, vocal and multimodal elements
from one language to another.
