Resumo:
This research addresses the use and appropriation of urban residual spaces, which in many cases are considered abandoned, precarious areas with poor attention from public authorities. Observing the socio-spatial tensions related to residual space makes it possible to visualize the processes of struggle that involve the use and appropriation of these spaces in the city. The research object of study is the characteristic of spatial residuality, the relationships between users of residual spaces and the forms of appropriation of these spaces. As a case study, the residual space generated by the urban void of the old Fábrica de Cartuchos, in the Realengo neighborhood, and the adjacent place called Parquinho Verde Realengo, a space in which unscheduled uses and appropriations by the population emerged, are analyzed. The general objective is to discuss the characteristics of the use, appropriation and valorization of urban residual space, especially in territories of greater social vulnerability, and more specifically, to observe these dynamics in the population that frequents and enjoys Parquinho Verde Realengo. The concepts of use and appropriation of space, place and belonging emerge as guides for research. Methodologically, the research is developed based on bibliographical discussion, fieldwork, with comparative observations carried out between the years 2022 and 2024, during the occupation of Parquinho and the implementation (started in September 2022) of the urban park (Parque Realengo Susana Naspolini), currently in the construction phase, as well as conducting interviews and questionnaires with residents and employees of Parquinho Verde Realengo.
