Resumo:
Favelas, once seen as symbols of disorder, have become essential elements of the city, representing the duality between formal and informal, order and disorder. This research highlights that the experience of living in a favela is complex and diverse, challenging simplistic stereotypes. The urban space is where strategies confront each other, and this dissertation proposes to understand the identity of favela residents fromthe perspective of the suburban favela, focusing on the case of Jacarezinho. The study contextualizes the formation of favelas, suburbanization, and the center-peripherydichotomy concerning the specificities of the city of Rio de Janeiro, concluding that Jacarezinho exemplifies the category of suburban favela due to its location and history.
