This dissertation reports the experience of teaching History held at the
Military College of Rio de Janeiro (CMRJ) through the implementation of an
extracurricular project on International Relations (I.R.), which led to the creation of
an I.R. club. (CRIO) and, consequently, the expansion of the original scope of the
proposal. It thinks about the institution s own culture, its limits and opportunities,
for the construction of a broader teaching of History. It advocates the possibility
and necessity of this construction, pointing out some thematic paths, but always
starting from the students creative action and supporting the entire experience of
their autonomy. As a pedagogical intervention that is taking place, it is constantly
being elaborated. This work makes a theoretical reflection on the actions carried
out so far, inspired by the formulations and concepts of Paulo Freire, bell hooks and
E.P.Thompson.
