Resumo:
This study examines social isolation, loneliness, and FoMO (Fear of Missing Out) in telecommuting. For theoretical grounding, the literature related to telecommuting and its implications was reviewed, focusing on the negative aspects associated with increased social isolation, FoMO, and loneliness. The adopted methodology was qualitative analysis, with semi-structured interviews conducted with 12 leaders working in organizations of various sectors and sizes. For the analysis of results, content analysis was chosen, with responses grouped into seven thematic categories: telecommuters perception regarding FoMO, loneliness, and social isolation; support, interventions, and consequences of FoMO, loneliness, and social isolation in telecommuting; and telecommuters interaction on social media. The results reveal that while many professionals appreciate remote work, the costs associated with telecommuting are significant when they impair interpersonal relationships. Among the positive aspects of telecommuting, increased productivity, improvement in quality of life, and well-being of telecommuters were highlighted. On the other hand, respondents pointed out negative aspects of telecommuting resulting from communication failures, increased FoMO, loneliness, and social isolation. Finally, the research suggests future studies on the topic and presents proposals to minimize these identified negative points.
