Resumo:
This doctoral thesis was carried out in the Postgraduate Program in Social Service at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), in the research line Violence, Rights, Social Service and Intersectoral Policies, linked to theCNPq research group: State, Society, Policies and Social Rights (GESPD). Its objective was to analyze the sociability of the Haitian population in the city of Maricá- RJ, in the face of Brazilian racism. We seek to delve deeper into whether the integration of the segment is affected by this reality or even what strategies and rearrangements are carried out by the group, collectively and/or individually. We sought to bring out the intersections between Brazil and Haiti, as well as the motivations that lead the Haitian population to leave their country, and the choice for Maricá, and how they perceive the consequences of this process, based on Brazilian specificities constituted under structural racism. In the methodological path, participant observations were carried out, based on interactions with migrants living in the city, through records with varied information. In-depth interviews were also carried out with 5 Haitian people (4 men and 1 woman), made possible by a Haitian coordinator. The research topic is relevant due to the limited production and systematization of the migratory process in Maricá, andcan serve as a basis for consultation to support the development of public policies aimed at this segment, as well as pointing out improvements in the segment s sociability process. The analyzes revealed that Brazilian racism interferes in the choices and way of life of the people interviewed, being understood in different ways: causing them to seek movements that strengthen Brazilian black identity, forcing the return of the Haitian route to other countries, or even, faced with the need for material maintenance of life, racism is placed in the background, creating survival strategies. In this sense, difficulties in the field of work were highlighted, including racist experiences and difficulties with documentation, in addition to experiences of racism in the interpersonal, collective and institutional spheres. In this way, it was possible to understand that racism is expressed in different ways in the lives of the Haitian population, in the city of Maricá, strengthening a movement of evasion from the segment and the construction of strategies by those who decide to remain.
