Resumo:
The research aimed to identify and understand the ideological position and political-discursive actions of the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo - an important journalistic company and representative of the great press - throughout the period of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship. The thesis defended is that the ideological position of Folha de S.Paulo, throughout the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship, always remained linked to its position (and worldview) as the dominant business class. As a consequence of this, his daily political-discursive actions were always fluid, plural and adapted to the political, economic and social changes of the period. Based on Ruth Wodak s Critical Discourse Analysis and Historical-Discursive Approach (HDA), 7,021 editorial pages published from January 1961 to December 1988 were analyzed. Based on the identified discursive strategies, it was possible (1) to periodize the Jornal s discursive trajectory in six different moments; and (2) answer the five central questions of the AHD, diachronically observing the discursive changes in the macrotopics Democracy versus Authoritarian Regime and Neutral Press versus Opinion-Forming Press. The results found explain the performance of the business political actor in society and, more specifically, the press. This means that the presumed objectivity and impartiality present in journalistic discourse only contribute to cover up the moral and political work carried out on a daily basis by newspapers.
