Resumo:
The city of Rio de Janeiro has around 2,000 public green areas, according to a survey carried out by Fundação Parques e Jardins (2018), distributed among squares, urban parks, flowerbeds, and landscaped areas, divided by the 5 planning areas of the city. The City Hall has as a goal for the year 2022, the revitalization of 500 squares with the objective of improving the conservation of these areas, reducing the state of degradation of some of them. Degradation causes the places to be underused by users, highlighting the negative aspects perceived by regulars such as lack of safety, cleanliness and conservation of equipment and structure according to Dorigo and Ferreira (2015). The squares are no longer a place of just contemplation, and have become a place for meetings, physical and sports activities, education, workshops, leisure, dog coexistence, fairs, varied opportunities, a place of income generation, in short, a multifaceted place. According to Barquero (2001), localities do not take full advantage of their available resources that determine their development potential.
