This dissertation was conceived from the convergence of three elements: teaching knowledge, theoretical basis and the belief that building up a teaching plan which aims at putting together curriculum contents discussed in class and the various equipments that constitute the Brazilian historical heritage undoubtedly helps create enriching pedagogical practices, linking history teaching and patrimony education. Striving for providing history teachers who work with elementary education for high school students with some material to contribute with their pedagogical activities, it proposes the planning of visits to heritage itineraries in public places of Rio s urban area. These visits, intended for the three levels of Brazilian high school, aim at facilitating the learning of Brazilian colonial, imperial and republican history, from a critical perspective, joining social, political and economical aspects of Rio de Janeiro to patrimony education activities. This research has included theoretical readings in areas such as patrimony, history teaching and historiography about the city of Rio de Janeiro, as well as the examination of legislation and data related to the city s historical heritage.
