Resumo: | |||||||||||||
A folktale from the city of Itaguaí/RJ known as the legend of Quiva and Laiá is the main source of this dissertation, which aimed to examine how, in History classes, one can contribute to the overcoming of an understanding that makes indigenous people invisible in contemporaneity, stuck to a colonial past and passive agents against the wefts of History. Starting from a narrative that tells the story of an indigenous couple fighting, alongside their people, for the lands of Itaguai s village, the epistemological changes of New Indigenous History are absorbed intertwined to the political assumption of an anti-racist education. Thus, the analysis were developed in order to enable the History teacher, through the legend of Quiva and Laiá, to reflect on matters related to the protagonism of indigenous people in History, the amend of indigenous conflicts through disputes of memory and the mobilization of historical conscience of the students in the sense of facing the prejudice towards indigenous peoples. In the midst of this, the learning built after a history teaching practice carried out by me with my students at the Professor Ney Cidade Palmeiro State School and the Chaperó Municipalized State School was examined. For a month, in September 2019, my classroom was transformed into a laboratory studies, moving then to be the locus of the inquiry of the issues that inspired this whole dissertation.
