Resumo:
The prison system in Brazil is marked by a punitive politics that has repercussions on mass incarceration, provoking a vertiginous increase of the prison contingent, mainly the feminine one. This dissertation aims to investigate the perception of women prisoners on the repercussions of female incarceration in their family ties. The qualitative research methodology was used. Nine women on parole for at least six months were interviewed. They were already mothers before the incarceration. From the analysis of the discursive material of the participants interviews, seven categories emerged: violence in the prison; support network; shame, guilt and reparation in family ties; shake up family ties; effects of the prison; ties of love and female transgression; and family behind the bars. It was found that the difficulties of female incarceration are felt even more severe, since the effects of women s estrangement have a significant repercussion on parentchild relationships and reverberate in the family as a whole. In addition, the fact that we are part of a patriarchal society means that the implications of imprisonment fall on women even more cruelly, making this group even more vulnerable.
