This study aims to analyse the construction of identity of
a Portuguese immigrant in Brazil, during a research
interview. Using the Interactional Sociolinguistics
approach to discourse analysis, I investigate how she
constructs her identity, focusing her professional career,
that is organized in a sequence of positive and negative
events.
In her speech, the narrator constructs an image of a hard
worker, and a brave person. I also observe how the
Portuguese culture, specially the Portuguese culture of an
immigrant in Brazil, informs her construction of identity.
