Resumo: | ||||||||
This paper has approached the academic trajectories of university
professors, more specifically the ones that have performed jobs in the courses of
Letters and Mathematics from Universidade do Estado do Pará (UEPA). The
questions aimed in this investigation were: What is the profile of the university
professors? What is the initial academic trajectory of such professors? What is the
role of continuous academic studies in the university? Do the professors work on
research? What are the institutional conditions that the professors have in order to
develop university research and teaching? The categories of analysis adopted have
gone through the profile, the initial and continuous academic trajectory and the
labor conditions of the university professors. The main objective was to analyze
the academic trajectory of university professors and the present profile of those as
for their personal, academic and institutional aspects. The adopted methodology
presented the following moments: application of 62 questionnaires to all
professors; tabulation of the data obtained; performance of semi-structured
interviews to thirteen professors who were selected from pre-established criteria,
as titles and time on duty; document analysis of legislation, plans, curricula and
projects that were essential to complete the data. The obtained conclusions were
the following: the profile of the university professors from UEPA has indicated a
group that, in general, owned a social-economical origin from parents with fewer
school years, constituted by more men than women. Most professors were in their
mid-career, their ages ranged from 30 to 49 and revealed they were satisfied with
their duties. When considering the cultural aspects, the professors reported not to
have much time for leisure and, as for the cultural programs, the news were the
most mentioned ones. Internet was mentioned as a tool used by all professors, but
there was a difference in its use when considering the time of duty of such
professors, for the ones that were performing activities for a lower time in the
university have revealed that they do use such a tool in an essential way, even for
class preparation. The ones who have worked there for a longer time have
revealed to use it just as a communication tool It was also concluded that the
professors act in their areas of initial graduation. In the context of post graduation,
as a continuous academic study via, it was obvious the reality of the North region
of Brazil, where there is a lower offer for Master and Doctorate courses, what
forces several professors to leave the State of Pará or, even, Brazil, in search for
qualification courses. Academic titles has revealed to be decisive in research
activity, as I have checked out such activity in a more consistent way, just in the
context of doctor professors that act in the Master Courses, the Masters integrate
research groups and tutor works of scientific initiation and, for the specialists, this
activity is almost not existent. As for the labor conditions, they do need to be
improved in order to guarantee better space for the performance and academic
graduation of university professors as well as the necessity for a widening of the
support for further participation in scientific events. Hence, the academic
formation of the university teacher still lacks more induced institutional and
public policies in order to generate an academic formation locus to such a
professional.
