Resumo:
The hair mineralogram is a multielemental analysis that provides information about the person s health. The use of aesthetic treatments for hair, such as dyes or straightening, represent exposure to substances that can be harmful to health, both for users and for the professionals who apply them, and may hamper the interpretation of mineralogram data. The objective of this work was to establish correlations between beauty treatments and hair mineral composition of volunteers of different ages and genders, and perform statistical data analysis. Hair samples were collected from the occipital region of volunteers, who answered a form containing important information for data analysis. The samples previously washed and dried were decomposed with nitric acid, the mineral content determined using ICP-MS and the statistical results evaluated with the help of Statistica for Windows. The elements analyzed were classified as essential or toxic. Elements presenting statistically significant differences in women using some hair cosmetic treatment were: Mg, K, Ca, V, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Mo, Zn and Sr, and the toxic metals: Ni, Ba and U. When compared natural hair, without treatment, significant differences between men and women were observed for Mg, Ca, Sr, Mo and Au, however, all medians were below the upper limit of the reference used in this work. Considering the toxic elements, no one was different, and that women had a higher concentration of this metal.
