Resumo:
This research investigates narrative scenes produced by four teachers from different disciplines of Basic Education while discussing issues based on their professional practice, especially those related to the challenges of teaching. Inserted in the area of Applied Linguistic, the study aims at analyzing how the co-construction of teachers professional identities occurs as well as aims at investigating the evaluative discourses carried out by the participants in the reconstruction of their professional identities. The theoretical architecture interfaces structural (LABOV; WALETZKY, 1967; LABOV, 1972) and interactional approaches (MOITA LOPES, 2001; BASTOS, 2004, 2005; DE FINA, 2008) for narrative analysis, as well as links sociological studies (BAUMAN, 2005; HALL, 2005; GIDDENS, 1999, 2002) to the socioconstructionist perspective of identity (BUCHOLTZ; HALL, 2003, 2005; MOITA LOPES, 2002, 2003). With the intention to reach the proposed objectives, the qualitative and interpretive methodological perspective (DENZIN; LINCOLN, 2006) was adopted, focusing on an interaction produced throughout a Discussion Group. Results indicate that: (i) participants evaluate their teaching experiences from the challenges they face in the classroom; (ii) teachers construct narratives of suffering that reinforce their difficulties in dealing with the challenges of the profession, but, on the other hand, reinforce their desire to fight and remain in the teaching profession; (iii) teachers construct multiple collective professional identities at different moments of the interaction, evidencing the engagement and cooperation for the development of their stories and; (iv) the evaluative elements are constitutive of teachers’ professional identities.
