This work aims to reflect on the integrated use of imaging techniques to research in the humanities, intending, there by to contribute to a better understanding about the implications of the increasing presence of constant technological means in the way contemporary society has been constituted. The theoretical basis is premised on the philosophy of language Mikhail Bakhtin (1895-1975), particularly regarding the concepts dialogism, exotopia and otherness. Its design language is articulated to an analysis of the production process of the following Brazilian documentaries: Edifício Master (2002), The end and beginning (2005), both of Eduardo Coutinho, and Santiago (2008) of Joao Moreira Salles. The main thing that brings documentaries to produce a language of its own research in the humanities is the position of assuming the presence of the camera that acts as a mediating tensions and mobilizes to re-signify the relationship between the researcher and his other. In this sense, the use of the camera has been questioned as part of two separate stages of research practice, namely: first, while mediation technique that interferes with the field at the time of performing the search, and second, when the edit images the researcher produces a narrative that is intended to disseminate the research results from the production of a documentary video.
