The mainstream literature of Administration recommends that the competitive advantage of organizations depend on the ability of the organization to learn how to learn and stimulate their processes and organizational routines in order to internalize the knowledge generated by the interaction of their organizational actors and the external environment. This concern has generated several studies focused on the way this knowledge is generated, organized and stored and, turning increasingly to the role of history in the company s strategy and in the construction of internal and external organizational sense through the construction of memory centers and management of historical organizational documents. In the practical field, aware that the external and internal strategic value of the role of memory, linking it even a duty of memory, there memorialization processes of different organizations, with the emergence of various Memory and Documentation Centers (MDC) and the management of organizational historical documents. However, few studies discuss the importance of the way in which this information is collected, selected and incorporated into the organization s knowledge system and by whom they are built. The contribution of this study is to increase understanding of organizational memory management policies, both for the purpose of retrieving and disseminating stories and memories, as well as their strategic use for social legitimation and market differentiation by identifying what we call organizations producers of business history. In this study, the following companies were considered as producers of history and memory: Grifo, Tempo e Memória, Expomus, Memória e Identidade and Museu da Pessoa. Regarding the methodological procedures, the data were collected from (a) interviews with the companies identified as the main builders of history and organizational memory; (b) documentary research through the websites and institutional books of the organizations analyzed; (c) interviews and technical visits with clients / contractors of these history and memory building services; and (d) interviews with representatives of the Brazilian business communication association. The analysis of the data was based on the procedures of the content analysis and generated categories identified a priori (history and team, portfolio of products, portfolio of clients, relationship with the market and difficulties encountered) and a posteriori (perspective of the client / contractor of any product / service offered by each company examined). Finally, the analysis revealed a homogeneity of memory management policies, according to the intention of the contracting organization how these memory policies will be disseminated inside and outside the company, the use of narratives built for the purpose intended by the organization; and a recommendation of a duty of memory and of historical social responsibility. However, we have identified that the strategic use of MDCs has not yet reached its full potential, which allowed us to list some managerial implications and suggestions for future research.
