This study investigates the myth of the real urban outlaw
and the nuances of its representation in Brazilian cinema.
It analyses a set of eleven films from the cinematographic
production of the past 50 years as well as the origin of the
construction of such a myth in the press and its
exploration by contemporary media. In the background it
shows the changes of the outlaws profile, the appearance
of new agents in the world of criminality and the
escalation of violence as a characteristic of Brazilian
Society.
