This paper aims to explore as specific aspect of the
existing synergy between organizational structure and
strategy: to study how the organization structure can make
it easier or more difficult to implement a new corporate
strategy. It is a case study at FURNAS Centrais
Elétricas S.A. There has been some regulatory changes in
electric utilities sector in Brazil.So, the company
developed a project to study the strategic alternatives
that would lead it to success in this new environment. The
main result of the project was a suggestion of a new
corporate strategy. And, included in the agenda of the
necessary changes the company would have to go through in
order to implement the strategy, was the adoption of a new
organizational structure. The data, based on documental and
field research, were treated to analyze the fit between the
proposed organizational structure and the new strategy
suggested in the project.
