Floods have always been a major hydrological issue. Its susceptibility is caused by many factors, such as soil sealing, deforestation, disordered densification, climatic variations, among others. Currently Floods have been occurring on a large scale around the world, Brazil included, bringing high social and economic damage to the affected cities. Even with a low probability of ocurring, its devastating effects has ignited the interest of public agenciesresponsible for security and civil protection to study and plan solutions to mitigate its effects. Knowing how to cope with floods by mitigating their adverse impacts is a measure that should be adopted by civil society and public agencies through interlinked urban and environmental planning.
