Resumo:
The management of solid waste, based on the principles of sustainable development, has proved to be a great challenge which transcends the commonly adopted forms of handling and final disposal. This model implies a review of concepts regarding the production of consumer goods, their demand by the society and the effective social participation concerning the preservation of the environment and, consequently, of the humanity itself. Besides the academic principles aimed at the application of strategies that promote both the socio-economic development and the preservation of the local environment, this present work shall analyze the management of computer-related equipment. Intending to present the technological and environmental aspects related to one of the mostly discussed themes within the industrial environment and the whole society, the creation of non-durable products has brought about a disturbed increase concerning the production of new computer equipment. These characteristics, when coupled with the lack of an institutional computer-related policy, have demanded the creation of projects which focus on the reduction, reuse, recycling and adequate destination of computer-related waste. The hypothesis that guided the development of the present work was based on the belief that the implementation of a system which manages the waste of computer equipment may contribute significantly to the local socio-economic and environmental development. Through its capacity of social immersion as a means of job and income generator, this hypothesis also contributes to the reversal of environmental degradation, which is motivated by improper final destination, leading to a refuse of computers and printers in inappropriate places.
