Resumo: | |||||||||||||
The thesis discusses the construction of historical knowledge in schools in the context of media coverage. One of the main objectives of the study was to analyse dialogues and educational activities, with regards to historical learning. Another spectrum is related more specifically to the joining of media logic and the logic of school historical knowledge. Is the historical learning, as promoted in the school, affected by the context of the media coverage? Among the school historical narratives, how do the media narratives present themselves? What are the students views on the history being taught? What about history in media? History lessons were observed in three 9th grade classes in a public school in the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro, with questionnaires and group interviews with students. The research documents are composed of 1381 minutes of audio class recordings, field notes, 93 questionnaires and 20 student interviews. Data was analyzed using the Atlas T software for the tasks of storing, categorizing and establishig cross-references of the empirical material. The concepts of historical formation, historical culture, multiple literacies, mediatization and social languages were articulated in the analysis of the following categories created: historical concept, teacher-student dialogue, relations with the present, negotiation, media, technology, video production, use of textbooks and views of history taught. The study showed students appreciation of interactive discussions for the promotion of significant historical learning. It also showed critical views of the ways of learning induced by the school centered on the written word. The media was present in the history lessons observed and enabled more flexible one-way historical narratives. Despite claiming that the media feeds their historical imagination, the students do not confer a high degree of reliability in media narratives, valuing the printed word and the teacher s word.
