This paper analyses the movie production of the Caravelas Cine Club, situated in the city of Caravelas, in the south of Bahia. Through this analysis we intend to propose a reflection on the appropriation of audiovisual production media by communication community groups. By doing so, we investigated the historic dynamic of Caravelas so as to understand the political, social and cultural context of the establishment of the Caravelas Cine Club. Following this debate, we sought a re-interpretation of the legitimating and social representation spaces in a community environment, made possible by the production and broadcasting of movies by groups acting on the margins of the big centers of audiovisual production.
