Resumo:
Increasingly, the work stands as an important sphere in people s lives, becoming a central element in the identity of individuals. A key element of the meaning of work in the lives of individuals are values or, more specifically, results and objectives valued at work. They act as guides, and ideals that influence the position of the individual in the workplace. The study work values aims to understand what is important to people in the workplace or even more comprehensive, is related to what work means in a life of an individual, in other words values are related to the reasons that lead people to working. This study aims to identify the work values that guide the work of professionals with different career choices: technical and management who work at the Research Center of Petrobras, as well as to analyze whether there is a distinction between the hierarchy of values with these groups focusing on similarities and differences regarding the prioritization of values. To this end, the research adopts as its main theoretical framework for the study of work values theory proposed by Port & Tamayo (2003), which was based on the Schwartz Value Theory (1992), proposing a measurement instrument to be applied in the organizational environment and consistent with the Brazilian reality. To collect the data, was applied to scale the Work Values in 109 specialists and 59 managers, totaling 168 respondents. The results demonstrated the hierarchy of values for each group of professionals as well as highlighted the similarities and differences when compared. The results analysis showed no significant difference between existence hierarchy of values among those who have followed the technical and managerial career. The conclusion are intended to clarify a bit the scenario based on the results obtained, and recommend further studies on the topic.
