Resumo:
The recent tendency in the nuclear reactors safety is the adopting of passive systems, which are those that work without complex mechanisms or human interference. A good example of a passive system is one using the principle of natural circulation for removing the residual heat, generated by the fission products in nuclear reactors. A closed thermal-hydraulic loop was designed, assembled and tested. It is constituted mainly by a copper pipe system, including a heat source and a heat sink. The influence of many operating parameters in the water flow behavior through the system (attained in steady-state) is largely discussed, as well as the behavior of the temperatures in the steady and transient states.
