Resumo:
During about 600 years, official documents and orders were written with real iron gall ink. Only by the end of the Nineteenth Century and beginning of the twentieth century it was gradually replaced by synthetic dyes. Thus, the presence of such documents with ink in archives and libraries is significant. However, the reaction system formed between the components used in the manufacture (ferrous sulfate and tannic acid) and cellulose, known as the Fenton system, can lead to destruction of the document. In this case, the Fe (+2) ion has a role of paramount importance. In this context, a reliable and non-destructive measurement of the presence of this ion in the documents, by tests of touch, becomes a powerful tool. There is a tape, available in the market, indicator for the detection of iron in the original, using an insoluble indicator, the bathofenanthroline. However, even this can cause red stains in the original. This study presents the development of a new identifier strip test of Fe (+2), with a lower possibility of the appearance of red spots in the original. For this, we tested the parameters that influence the reaction medium of the tape, such as distribution of the superficial indicator reagent, type of paper, change in the reaction medium and adding a protective layer. It has been carried out a study of possible interfering reaction in iron-batofenantrolina. The comparison between the tape currently in the market and the one developed in this study was done using the digital processing of the resulting color of the reaction of Fe (+2) ions and indicator batofenantrolina. This allows us to evaluate the best performance of the tape carried in patterns used for testing.
