This thesis contains a comparative analysis between men and women’s opportunities in the Brazilian labor market. It is based on the information published by the Ministry of Labor in the RAIS - Relação Annual de Informações Sociais - for the year of 1976. A large wage differential is identified and some variables, other than sex, are tested as the possible explanatory variable. It is concluded that the large wage gap is explained by the sex variable.
