Non Local Means is an innovative noise reduction algorithm
for images
presented by Buades and Morel in 2004. It performs
remarkably better than older
generation algorithms but has a performance penalty that
prevents it from being
used in mainstream consumer application. The objective of
this work is to find
ways of reducing the time-complexity of the algorithm and
enabling its use in
main stream image processing applications such as home
photography or photo
printing centers.
