Resumo:
The telecommunications industry has been changing more intensively since it`s privatization. New rules were created and the customers now have the right to choose which company would complete their long distance calls. In other words, where there before was state monopoly, today there are several companies with government concession to operate: concessionaries, mirror- companies and little mirror companies. This project evaluates the impact of strategic network alliances on the way Embratel operates in the long distance calls market. Embratel was the company chosen for this study because of it`s 30 years in the telecommunications industry and also because it has lost the lead in the long distance calls market share since 2003, according to Teleco Portal and since July 2004 it has been part of the Telmex group which by that time already controlled Claro and AT&T Latin America. Today Telmex also controls NET Serviços. This study adopted Macedo-Soares` (2002) strategic network analysis model and to analyze the case study, a strategic triangulation of methods was also used. Thus, the information was gathered by documental investigation, surveys and interviews with the executives. The results show that the relational analysis adds value to the traditional analysis, bringing in to perspective new insights for executive decisions at Embratel regarding the long distance calls market.
